ALTAIR

‘Altair’ was the result of a leisurely sleepless night that brought out several iterations of a soft rounded decorative typeface that constraints itself within four squares cut through by various curved forms to bring out a retro candy crush aesthetic with the addition of 3D elements.

At its crux, ‘Altair is an attempt at crafting a geometric decorative typeface – each letter has been developed out of four squares intersected with circular forms and stark diagonal cuts with a distinct segmentation occurring axially in addition to a characteristic triangular/diamond/spark-like amber accent adding an element of pop amongst the cool and desaturated shades of blue. It provides an elegance reminiscent of night time skies, with the 3D iterations alluding to mobile games popularized in the 2010s such as Bounce, Block Master, Zuma and Candy Crush. Paired with a bright candy floss pink, the blues of the type seemed to have a lovely contrast – essentially an aesthetic that would fit confectionary, bath and body care brands, toys with a feminine touch, bedtime accessories – I could go on – it’s a versatile and quirky form that can fit many a niche. My personal favourite idea had been one where the typeface can be used as versals in a chidren’s bedtime story book with castles and unicorns, you get the drill! :)
