DTALE is a premium furniture showroom in Thrissur, Kerala. Located on the Kochi-Salem highway, the building is an iconic sight with its large logotype and rustic and geometric façade design. The task at hand was to generate visualizations for this building as a part of the Monsoon Architecture Festival 2023. To reflect the richness of the furniture and the beautiful host of colours within, the visualizations took their roots in collages of paintings from the Impressionist, Regionalist and Pre-Raphaelite era. The key idea behind the conceptual illustrations was to allude towards the accessibility that the showroom offers in addition to showcasing the voguish statement monolithic structure that it hosts – a design that highlights the abstract slab serif nature of the logotype – from being something that can be identifiable in a book, handled in a tactile way through furniture, and making statements environmentally, DTALE becomes a well-rounded holistic identity. Another key theme to explore had been the modularity explored within the building. One of the other requirements within these visualizations was to subtly allude to the scale of the elements within the building which had been presented through a wide array of collaged cutouts. Many of Claude Monet’s cool themed paintings were used to bring out the warm metallic and earthy tones of the showroom.
